GYRADIKO

Forget the lamb and tabouleh, this authentic Greek snack spot hailing from Sydney’s south, will have you rethinking gyros for good.

Specialising in authentic traditional pork and chicken gyros, Gyradiko elevates the meat-in-pita genre to delicious new heights.

And just as Yia-yia would want it, all ingredients, from meat to dips, are made from scratch and prepared daily.

The Gyros
Many of us are more familiar with the closely related Turkish Doner Kebab than the Greek Gyros (pronounced YEE-ros). The key differences between the two are that the gyros are made on a lightly toasted piece of soft and fluffy pita bread which is folded into a pocket, where kebabs are made on flatbread which is then rolled around the fillings. Also, the Turkish kebabs are filled with shredded meat, tabouli, hummus, and salad, while the Greek gyros are filled with sliced meat (traditionally pork), tzatziki, tomato, onion, and a few chips too.

With so many choices on the menu, and ways to make it your own, we’ve rounded up three of the best:

Pita Pork Gyros
You can’t pass up a classic Pita Pork Gyro from Gyradiko. Large slices of tender pork are nestled into fluffy round pita, lightly scorched on the grill. Topped with tangy tzatziki, tomato, onions and chips, wedged Athenian style into the gyros cone. Savour the meal at one of the tables or take it to go.

Merida Chicken
Feeling peckish? Choose from one of the filling Merides (open plate) range at Gyradiko.
Their perfectly cooked chicken breast fillet is served in a shredded fashion alongside a hearty serving of Greek salad, pita bread, chips, and topped with their homemade tzatziki. It will have you fueled up and ready to tackle the rest of your day!

Psomaki Vegetarian
While Greek food is best known for its plentiful bounty of meat, they also do some darn good vegetarian feasts! A fan favourite at Gyradiko Haymarket has to be their Psomaki Vegetarian. A soft Greek-style bread roll is filled with their famous special sauce. Slices of warm halloumi, compliment the smattering of eggplant, zucchini, tomato, and onions. Served fresh with chips and salad.

Their delicious grilled meats are best served with a helping of their famous Chilli Chips (topped with their much loved special sauce and chilli flakes) or a salad - we love a classic Greek salad, but their Lentil Protein Salad is superb too!

Whether you like your gyros to be filled with tender pork, succulent chicken or warm halloumi, come in and say Yassou to the friendly team at Gyradiko at Darling Square.
